Kitchen Category Winners:

Kitchen Upgrade Project by Mary

FINISH DETAILS:
Sanded the butcher block, added Howard mineral oil and conditioner.

PROJECT COMMENTS:
My husband and I ripped out our kitchen in March and completely remodeled it from March to May. We are not professionals and learned as we went. Our house was built in 1911 and the kitchen has not been updated since the 40s. We tore it down to the studs to redo the electrical and plumbing. We got married in August of this year and really got to know each other during the remodel and learned how to communicate better. We also made some cutting boards with excess material. They will make great holiday gifts for our families

Kitchen Upgrade Project by Jeffrey

FINISH DETAILS:
Mineral oil/conditioner and light sanding

PROJECT COMMENTS:
We replaced all our old cabinets and refurbished our hardwood floors hiding under the vinyl. The cabinets are a white shaker style. The sink is a deep farm sink. The countertops are European walnut. This project was fun and challenging at times but I’m glad we did it!

Office:

Desk by Alonso

FINISH DETAILS:
I used a dark walnut gel stain with a flat clear coat.

PROJECT COMMENTS:
I remodeled my pastors office, I used heave duty l bracket which I used a router to be able to hide the brackets. I used a stainable wood filler to hide the hardware and give it a floating shelf look. I used a dark walnut stain to achieve our desired color. I used a plate joiner to make a seam at the countertop since the total span was 14′.

Desk by Bryan

FINISH DETAILS:
After sanding through the grits and giving the front edge a 45 degree chamfer edge profile, I finished the top and bottom in General Finishes Java gel stain. After curing, I applied 3 coats of General Finishes Arm R Seal Satin. I let this cure for 30 days before heavy use.

PROJECT COMMENTS:
I used the Hardwood Reflections birch top to create an L shaped desk for my built in office/guest space renovation. I used two of the 6 foot sections to create 3 work tops in the office. I combined two of the sections into an L shape and connected them using dowels and a flat bracket underneath. I routed out whole for power outlets and for grommets to allow wires to pass through. The top was solid all the way through. The desk looks beautiful surrounding the Murphy bed. The availability, cost, and ease of use of the Hardwood Reflections product made it a no brainer for my project. I was able to spend less time on the desk and more time scratching my head on everything else. I cant recommend it enough. I posted about it on my instagram @builtbybricker

Bathroom:

Acacia Bath Countertop by Cassandra

FINISH DETAILS:
I sanded finely using 220 grit, then applied 4 coats of wipe-on satin poly. In between each coat, I used fine steel wool to smooth out the poly for a very natural looking, but water-safe finish.

COMMENTS:
We used the live edge Acacia in our RV bathroom vanity renovation. We had a corner bathroom cabinet, and also needed to renovate our bedroom countertops, and build a custom fireplace in the living room, so the large slab of live edge was PERFECT. For this piece, we cut a diamond shape out of the slab, with the live edge in the front. We used a natural riverstone vessel sink on top of the slab for a beautiful natural look. We have gotten SO many compliments on the live edge countertop in there providing warmth!

COMMENTS:
